Astound vs Orai

Orai prints numbers on a screen. Astound builds your awareness and confidence over time.

Orai is an analytics app that gives feedback on your recordings, including your pace and filler word count. Unlike Orai, Astound ignores all that on purpose.

You use your voice every day; learn to use it on purpose.

Nobody ever built long-term confidence by looking at a graph. Real confidence comes from practice and awareness.

What Orai can’t give you

Awareness, not analytics

You learn to hear and feel your own voice — which is what actually changes how you speak. Nobody built confidence by staring at a graph.

Breath first

A steady voice sits on steady breath. Diaphragmatic breathing and breath support are the foundation of every routine.

Expert-led

Every lesson is taught by Leila Bostic, a voice coach and speech therapist with 15 years of work with teachers, doctors, managers and actors.

We don’t care about filler-words. Or graphs.

Your favourite speakers say “um” too. What they have is breath, presence, and a voice that carries. That’s what we train.

Which one is right for you?

Orai is a solid scorecard. Record a talk and it reports back on pace, filler words, clarity and energy.

Choose Orai if…

  • You mostly want a number for each rehearsal
  • You need an Android app
  • Cutting “um” is your main goal

Choose Astound if…

  • You want a voice that sounds steady and grounded
  • You run out of breath, rush, or your voice shakes
  • You'd rather learn from a real coach than a scorecard
  • You want a 3-minute warmup before the big moment

Why our users prefer Astound

4.7 stars from 1,300+ reviews on the App Store.

Breath-focused speaking app

Content wise, the app focuses on breathing. This is an underserved area of public speaking, and if you don’t have proper breath control, it is impossible to be a fully effective speaker.

Improvement after 3 sessions in 3 weeks!

I did the warm ups only a few times. My recordings show a major improvement! I went from squeaky Lauren Bacall to the real deal Bacall. Amazing.

Major Confidence Boost!

I’ve only had this app for three days but I have already noticed how my voice is projected further and it is also more fluent and free flowing! It has given me a major confidence boost!!

Questions

What's the difference between Astound and Orai?

Orai analyses recordings of your speech and scores things like pace and filler words. Astound trains the physical voice itself — breathing, resonance, articulation and tension release — through video lessons from voice coach and speech therapist Leila Bostic.

Will Astound count my filler words like Orai does?

No, and that's deliberate. Your favourite speakers say “um” too. Counting them tends to make people more self-conscious, not more confident. Astound focuses on breath and voice — the things that actually change how you come across.

Can I use Astound and Orai together?

Yes. Some people use Astound to warm up and build their voice, and a scorecard app to review a rehearsed talk.
